“It’s worrying how many adults don’t feel that they have the confidence or tools they need to change career at such a pivotal time of life. Employers, government, and careers advice providers need to do more to inspire people to actively plan their careers, across what might now be 50 or 60 years of working. Failing to do so is likely to exacerbate the 3.4 million aged 50 - 64 who are currently economically inactive and perpetuate risk of financial insecurity in retirement. We have brought together a host of careers organisations to spark change and inspire adults to take control of their careers. We want people to know that it’s never too late to change career and the right support can help make these moves less daunting.”

The Standard Life Centre for the Future of Retirement is a pioneering UK think tank committed to helping everyone achieve long-term financial security by supporting people to find and remain in good work for longer. Founded in 2021 as Phoenix Insights, we rebranded in 2025.
